It was 2007….. I was a 4th year medical resident frequently taking overnight call and living in my scrubs for 24-hours at a time. Comfort was lacking, to say the least. As a former collegiate and professional athlete, I know how important the right “uniform” translates to performance. Fit, feel, and function is important. This comes down to the right fabric.

As a former collegiate and professional athlete, I know how important the right “uniform” translates to performance. Fit, feel, and function is important. This comes down to the right fabric.
Out-dated traditional cotton scrubs had been the mainstay for the medical community for eons. I found that some of my work-out shirts were not only comfortable in extreme conditions, but the performance of the fabric was outstanding….. comfortable, stretchable, breathable, and moisture-wicking. So I started wearing some of my work-out shirts that somewhat resembled scrub tops in the hospital; until I got a “curbside consult” from one of my faculty physicians: “Hey pal, this is a hospital, not a gym….. you have to wear scrubs”. Boom! The light went on! Why not make scrubs with performance fabrics? And why the heck hasn’t anyone ever thought of this before?
My initial efforts were simply to upgrade to a better solution for myself and my friends. I cold-called a representative at Optimer Brands. Optimer pioneered and patented the fabrics used by all of the big athletic apparel companies. I figured if anyone knew about about performance fabrics, it was these guys. The Optimer folks thought scrubs made with performance fabrics was a fantastic and unique idea. So I manufactured a small batch of scrubs incorporating Optimer’s fabric technology. Wow! I could feel the difference the moment I put them on! After encouraging responses from my colleagues, I decided it was time to introduce the entire healthcare community to “performance scrubs”. And Titan Scrubs was born.
